LIBDEMS OPPOSE BUDGET IN SUPPORT OF STAFF PAY CLAIM
AT BROADLAND DISTRICT COUNCIL

Following an intervention by the staff Unison rep at the council meeting on Thursday night (22nd Feb) , Councillor Steve Riley spoke against the 2018/19 budget proposals;
" After this heartfelt plea on behalf of our loyal and hard working staff, I cannot vote for a budget falling short of the 3% they are requesting" he said. " Pay freezes and restraints over the last 8 years have affectively caused a pay cut in real terms resulting in real hardship. The extra 1% can be found within the budget ."
He was supported by fellow LibDem councillors David Harrison and Barbara Rix also present but with only one abstention from within the ruling Conservative group, the budget was passed unamended.
