Ben Goodwin speaks at Aylsham hustings

December 3, 2019 9:58 AM

Ben speaking at Aylsham HustingsBen Goodwin, our parliamentary candidate, attended the hustings on Monday evening in Aylsyam Parish Church organized by a local resident and attended by several hundred people.

The event featured opening statements from each of the candidates followed by two hours of audience questions.

"The disillusion with politics is because the real problems in our society have not been addressed" Ben said, "It hasn't always been this way. It's a result of decisions that we have taken in this country"

He went on to say "What is missing from the two main parties is the rational and pragmatic centre ground. But it is on the ballot paper".

"I've seen what it takes to make the right decision, rather than the easy decision, in difficult circumstances ... Only this party represents British values of fairness, reasonableness, moderation, and honesty. We must keep sight of these because they unite us as a nation. We work with the best evidence, and we are not blinded by ideology."

The Liberal Democrats are posing a serious challenge to a long-term Conservative majority in Broadland. Ben's campaign follows on from the May 2019 local and European election results that saw a huge swing towards the Liberal Democrats and away from both the two major parties resulting in 12 district councillors and 2 MEPs.

If elected, the Liberal Democrats will invest in Britain's long-neglected public services, such as the NHS and schools. There is a broad base of policies tackling climate change and looking to investment in renewables, public transport and home insulation.

In Broadland constituency, we will work to reverse Conservative cuts to public services and protect the region's farmers and local businesses from a punishing Brexit.
