Our Councillors

The parliamentary boundaries in Norfolk changed for the 2010 General Election and will change again in 2024.  There are plans to review the constituency boundaries on a 5 yearly cycle in the future.  In view of the changing nature of the constituencies, the Liberal Democrat party decided to reorganise the local parties along district council lines from the beginning of 2018.   The local party is the Broadland District Liberal Democrat party and takes in the 27 wards in the Broadland District Council area.

The Broadland District Council area encompasses 48 parish, 3 town councils, and 12 parish meetings in 27 wards. You can see a map of the area here: Broadland District Map via Google

At the 2023 local elections, the Liberal Democrats formed an alliance to run the council and are working hard to deliver the commitments in our manifesto.

There are currently 14 Liberal Democrat District Councillors at Broadland District Council and two of these are also Norfolk County Councillors. With your help we can make it more.

Sue was first elected as a District Councillor for Aylsham in 2018. Currently engaged in part-time voluntary work with a local advice agency, Sue lives with her husband, Richard, in Aylsham.  She has two adult sons and a history of business, science at UEA and HR at Norfolk County Council.

During her first year as a District Councillor, Sue served on the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, the Wellbeing Panel and is a representative on the Broadland Group of Children’s Centres Partnership Board. She finds it satisfying to be part of a committee, researching, contributing, discussing and making recommendations to the council.

“Attending meetings and staying on top of issues raised by local people has been my priority.  I try to seek and listen carefully to residents’ opinion so that I can truly represent local views.  I am committed to continuing to respond to concerns in a timely manner and to further develop the profile of both the town of Aylsham, and the surrounding villages, within Broadland District Council for the benefit of our residents.”

Sue joined her local parish council in  2015 to help out in community projects. She was elected as a District Councillor in 2019 and again in 2023 when she was also elected Leader of the Council.  She is committed to working hard for our area both in the local communities she lives and works in and across the wider Broadland area.

Sue says "Much has changed in the years since I moved to the area over 35 years ago, but Broadland has retained its distinctive character in its urban and rural mix.  It is a lovely place to live.  I believe it is important that local people have a say in the running of their services and in planning and development in their area. I am keen to listen to residents and ensure their views are heard."

Shane is a community champion. He has lived in Hevingham with his wife Sharon since 2014, he Chairs the Parish Council, edits the Parish magazine and is active with the local charity Hevingivers. He was a key driving force in the campaign to reduce the speed limit on Cromer Road through Hevingham and has used his experience to help the campaign through Hainford and Stratton Strawless.

Shane recently retired having spent his whole career in roles helping others from being a disability employment advisor to working as a mental health advocate. He is very much a “people person” and this is an asset in this role as a councillor where he is able to use his skills to help residents.

He serves on the Overview and Scrutiny Committee at Broadland.  "I  particularly enjoy the overview element of the committee." says Shane "It is a great opportunity to review a range of services provided by other organisations for us as residents."

“The parish has provided an idyllic environment to bring up my family, and I feel now is the time to give something back to the community I love” says Tony. “I am passionate about environmental and economic issues that affect all residents, especially with the cost of living crisis we are living through now."

Tony chairs the Audit Committee at Broadland District Council.  His background is in finance and investment, so he is well placed to hold Broadland to account regarding spending taxpayers hard earned cash.
